Tornado Touched Down In Oswego, NWS Confirms

The confirmed EF-0 tornado had peak estimated winds of 85 mph, according to National Weather Service storm survey teams.

OSWEGO, IL — A tornado touched down in Oswego during Wednesday's severe thunderstorms, the National Weather Service confirmed Thursday afternoon.

Storm survey teams determined the EF-0 tornado, which hit the ground near northeastern Oswego and eastern Boulder Hill, had peak estimated winds of 85 mph.

An EF-0 is the weakest on the enhanced Fujita scale, whereas an EF-5 is the strongest, deadliest tornado that can reach speeds of more than 200 mph.

Seven tornadoes have so far been confirmed. Others touched down in Elgin, Huntley, Barrington, Long Grove and Burr Ridge.

The National Weather Service still has survey teams looking for damage in fields across southern McHenry, northern DuPage and parts of Cook counties.
