Woman Charged With Fabricating Stabbing Story

A woman who told police she was stabbed by a black man in her home in unincorporated Oswego in May has been charged with attempted disorderly conduct and filing a false police report.
Charlotte Brummel, 57, 28 Frontier St., has been ordered to appear in court Aug. 18 as a result of the charges, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
to Brummel’s home at about 11:30 a.m. May 23 for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.

Brummel told deputies that a tall, black man in his late 30s with short hair and wearing a black T-shirt came to her door trying to sell her something, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Brummel said the man stabbed her in the chest with a knife and pushed her down in the doorway of the home, according to the sheriff’s office. The offender then left the scene on foot, she said.

Brummel was rushed to Rush-Copley Medical Center by Oswego Fire Protection District personnel with non-life-threatening injuries and released the same day.
The Sheriff’s Office revealed after a lengthy investigation that included a K9 search of the area and questioning neighbors that Brummel fabricated the story.
