Woman Hit By Van In Crosswalk Hospitalized: Oswego Police

Police said driver of minivan was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

OSWEGO, IL — Oswego Police Department officers were called to the scene of a crash involving a minivan and a pedestrian at 10:55 a.m. Saturday in the area of Washington and Main Streets. Police said according to the preliminary investigation, a 56-year-old female was trying to cross Washington Street in the crosswalk when a minivan in the southbound lane of Main Street turned left into the eastbound lane of Washington Street, and hit the pedestrian.

Police said the woman was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the minivan, 42-year-old Dana C. Buckman, of Aurora, wasn't injured. Buckman was cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.

According to police, there's a crosswalk signal available at that intersection, but it's not required to be used by pedestrians. Police said it's reported the woman didn't use the signal in Saturday's incident, and police tested the signals after the crash and confirmed they were working properly.
