Dates To Know For The 2025-2025 Palos Heights Dist. 128 Academic Year

The first day of school for K-8 students is Aug. 20 at D128 schools, including Indian Hill, Navajo, Chippewa and Independence.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — Where did the summer go? There are just a few short weeks of summer left, until students head back to school this month.

Back-to-school planning has already begun in Palos Heights SD 128 for the 2025-2026 academic school year, with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the new school year.

The first day of school for grade 1-8 students is Aug. 20 with the first day of pre-school and kindergarten Aug. 21.

Some dates are subject to change during the school year. We also suggest that you check the Dist. 128 calendar or your child’s school (Indian Hill, Chippewa, Independence and Navajo Heights) for late starts, early dismissals, exams, open houses, athletic and school events, as well as your child's school.

Aug. 21 – First day for students, early dismissal noon
Aug. 28 - First day of preschool
Sept. 1 – Labor Day, no school
Oct. 10 – Institute Day, student non-attendance day
Oct. 13 – Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day, no school
Nov. 26 through Nov. 28 – Thanksgiving break, no school
Dec. 1 - School resumes
Dec. 22 through Jan. 6 – Winter Break, no school
Jan. 5 – School resumes
Jan. 19 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day, no school
Feb. 16 – Presidents’ Day, no school
March 17 - Teacher Institute, Illinois Primary Election, no student attendance
March 20 - Eid, no school
March 30 through April 3 – Spring Break, no school
April 6 – No school
April 7 - School resumes.
May 25 – Memorial Day, no school
May 27 - Non-attendance
May 28 - Last day of preschool and preschool picnic
June 2 – Last day for students, early dismissal 11 a.m.
