COVID-19 Cases Rise In Palos Park, Nosedive In Palos Heights
Confirmed cases are rising in Palos Park, though not as much as last week. Over 90% of the community has received both vaccine doses.
PALOS, IL — According to data released Wednesday from the Cook County Department of Public Health, confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Palos area continue to vary. Confirmed cases rose 11% in Palos Park over the past two weeks, despite an overall downward trend in the state and the county. Cases dropped 23% in Palos Hills, and plummeted 47% in Palos Heights.
Weekly counts and rates are updated each Wednesday, and represent cases reported the previous Sunday through Saturday.
Palos Park currently has 1,081 total confirmed cases, with 24 cases reported last week. Through most of the pandemic, its reported COVID-19 cases per 100,000 have remained noticeably higher than the Suburban Cook County average.

Palos Hills has 2,211 total confirmed cases, with 26 cases reported last week. Its weekly case rate is 149 per 100,000 people. Over the course of the pandemic, Palos Hills has mostly remained on par with Suburban Cook County averages.
Palos Heights is reporting 1,891 total confirmed cases, and 13 cases last week. Its weekly case rate is 168 per 100,000 people. Its rate of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population is currently much higher than the Suburban Cook County average, and its numbers typically spike the highest above the county average during overall surges.

Palos Park's vaccination rates are well above county, state, and national averages. 6,856 Palos Park residents, or over 90% of the whole population, have received at least one vaccine dose. 5,873 residents, or over 90% of the total population, have received both doses.
Vaccination rates in Palos Hills are much lower, but closer to the county average. 10,141 residents, or 58% of the total population, have received at least one dose. 8,231, or 47.1%, have received both doses.
In Palos Heights, 10,055 residents, or 80.3% of the population, have received at least one dose, and 8,669, or 69.3% have received both doses.
In Suburban Cook County, there have been 282,870 confirmed cases and 4,732 deaths as of Oct. 7. The weekly case rate is 120 per 100,000 people, and there has been a 2.3% test positivity last week.
