Coyote Sightings in Palos UPDATE: Where Have You Spotted Them?

We've been hearing a lot of chatter on our Facebook page about coyote sightings lately so we decided to put together a map based on our readers' reports.

Above is sample of the local coyote sightings. Clearly, there's quite a few so far. In the event you happen to run into one (and you don't immediately run home to tell Patch about it), the Forest Preserve District offers these tips:
  • Take a moment to appreciate "this beautiful and elusive animal." Keep in mind that coyotes are not generally a threat to people. Small dogs? Now that's another story.
  • If the coyote comes toward you, yell, wave your arms or throw something at it. Most will run away.
  • If the coyote doesn't run away and you feel it poses a danger, call 911.

Want to share your coyote spotting? Let us know in the comments.
