Citizens to Re-Elect Jean Gnap Fundraiser

Citizens to Re-Elect Jean Gnap will kick off her campaign with a fundraiser on Wed. March 2nd  7:00pm-9:00pm at Sam Buca’s 12231 S. Harlem Ave., Palos Heights. The event is open to the public, tickets are $25.00 at the door. Jean Gnap is seeking re-election as Ward 1 Alderman in Palos Heights, a position she has held since 2001.

Jean was born and raised in Chicago, graduated from Mundelein College and was a High School Math & Science Teacher in Chicago. She then married Dr. John Gnap, a family practice physician.  The early years of their marriage took them to California, where John was drafted into the U.S. Army.  John served a tour of duty in Vietnam while Jean taught junior high school. In 1970 the Gnaps moved to Palos Height’s Westgate neighborhood.

Their children Jean Marie, Paul and Jennifer attended District 128 Palos Heights schools. Jean has been active in numerous community organizations.

She is a founding member of Southwest Suburban Montessori School and past President of The Children’s Farm both in Palos Park.  She is also past president of Palos Heights Chamber of Commerce, Palos Heights VFW Post 7454 Women Auxiliary and the Oak Lawn United Way. Jean served as a Red Cross Swim Instructor and worked at  The 4C Camp for Handicapped Children. From 1977-2010 she operated her own business in Palos Heights, Best Sellers Bookstore.  During her tenure as Alderman she helped promote the successful developments of Walsh Westgate Park, Palos Pool, Library, Lake Katherine, Art Garden, Metra Station, installment of sidewalks and deer abatement. She is the recipient of 2010 Chamber of Commerce Award for Civic Leadership, 2010 Friends of The Library Honorary Lifetime Member Award and Keystone Crossing Special Recognition Award.
