Palos Heights Garden Club First Meeting of 2011

6:30 p.m. Light Refreshments

7:00 p.m. Speaker: Beth Botts   Topic: "Vegetables Anywhere: How to Fit Farming Into Your Life," for those who are just getting started in growing food with a small space or who are looking for an easier way than dragging a tiller around.

Speaker: Beth Botts is a writer, speaker, consultant, Master Gardener and Openlands Treekeeper. She writes on gardening for the Chicago Tribune and Organic Gardening magazine, is a senior editor at Chicagoland Gardening Magazine and has had a long career as a newspaper editor and reporter. Several of her stories have won awards from the Garden Writers Association.

Raised by an organic gardener on the South Side of Chicago, she now does her digging and weeding in Oak Park, just on the west edge of the city, in the shade on the north side of a 4-story apartment building. She grows tomatoes and salads on the 3rd-floor back porch because that's where the sunlight is.

Guest Fee: $3.00

At this meeting dues will be taken for 2011.
