FBI: Accused Embezzler from Palos Hills Arrested Trying to Flee the Country
Blazej Wasilewski, 25, of Palos Hills, has been accused of robbing the south suburban bank where he was an assistant manager.

A Palos Hills man has been charged with embezzling almost $40,000 from the south suburban bank where he worked, according to a federal complaint released today.
Blazej Wasilewski, 25, of the 10300 block of South Alta Drive in Palos Hills, was charged with embezzling $39,765 from the Chase Bank in south suburban Glenwood, where he worked as an assistant manager.
Wasilewski manually turned off the bank's security system at the close of business on Friday, Aug. 26, the complaint alleges. He then returned to the bank the next morning and used his keys and codes to enter the vault.

During an audit that morning, it was discovered that the money was missing and that it was Wasilewski's code that was used to enter the vault, the complaint reads. Wasilewski’s entry key was found sitting on a counter.
The FBI was able to trace Wasilewski to O'Hare Airport, where he had boarded a plane to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic on Saturday morning.

Wasilewski was arrested by Dominican National Police and was in possession of $39,765 in cash, according to an FBI news release. He is still being held in the Dominican Republic awaiting extradition back to Chicago, the release said.
If convicted, Wasilewski faces up to 30 years in prison.
