Gas Price Update: Average Price Still Over $5 Around Palos Area

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL – Palos-area residents are feeling the squeeze at the pump with gas prices at a record high in Illinois. The average price of gas in Illinois was at about $4.97 per gallon Thursday, according to AAA. That's about what gas costs a week ago and is up 57 cents from a month ago.

In Cook County, the average price for a gallon of gas was around $5.26, 29 cents over the state average on Thursday.

But, if you know where to look, you can find cheaper gas prices throughout Cook County.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in the Palos area Thursday was selling for $4.93 per gallon at SNK Fuels, 12100 S. Ridgeland Ave. Most gas prices for a gallon of regular are hovering around $5.10 per gallon Here are some other places you can save in and near Palos Hills and Palos Park:

Nationally, the average gas price Wednesday was about $4.60 per gallon, and every state's average was more than $4 per gallon. Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 states in gas price averages Wednesday were California at $6.07, Nevada at $5.24, Washington at $5.21, and Oregon at $5.17, according to AAA. Kansas had the lowest national gas price average at around $4.11.
