Gas Prices Update: Gas Surging Toward $6 In Palos

PALOS, IL — Palos residents are seeing no signs of relief at the pump as gas prices in the area surged toward $6 per gallon Thursday.

Of the three Palos communities, the cheapest gas Thursday was at SNK Fuels, 12100 S. Ridgeland Ave., Palos Heights, at $5.59 according to GasBuddy.

The average price of gas in Illinois was at about $5.54 per gallon Thursday, according to AAA. That's a 16 cent increase from last week and up a whopping 75 cents from a month ago.
The average in Cook County was above the state average Thursday, sitting at about $5.96 per gallon.

The cheapest gas Thursday in Cook County was at Walmart, 17540 S. Halsted St., Homewood, selling for $5.39.

In Illinois, the cheapest gas can be found 45 miles outside of Carbondale in El Dorado, at $4.69.

Nationally, the average gas price Thursday was about $5.01 per gallon. It was $3.08 at this same point last year, according to AAA.

Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 4 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out highest Top 5 states in gas price averages Thursday were California at $6.42, Nevada at $5.67, Washington at $5.55 and Oregon at $5.54, according to AAA. Georgia had the lowest national gas price average at around $4.49.
