Gingerbread Village Lifts Holiday Spirts at Palos Hospital

Northwestern Medicine Celebrates the Holidays Building Gingerbread Houses

A sweet team building exercise at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital gave rise to a full neighborhood of gingerbread houses for all staff to enjoy this holiday season. 20 hospital departments participated in the competition intricately constructing and decorating houses, each with unique themes.

The PACU Surgery team included music, lights and movement with a pair of skaters swirling on an ice rink. The cardiology staff created a testing suite inside their gingerbread house with an EKG. Other houses celebrated veterans, the outdoors, beach scenes and winter wonderlands.

According to Dana Macaluso, program manager of engagement, building the houses was a fun way for staff to work together during the holiday season to lift spirits and build stronger team connections.
