Library Trustee Election

April 1, 2025 is the date of the Consolidated General Election for Library Trustees. Three 4-year terms and one 2-year term will be elected.

If you’re interested in running for Library Trustee, you can pick up a candidate packet during the Library’s operating hours at the Patron Services Desk, or download it online. Please review the Library’s Solicitation Policy if you are interested in collecting signatures for nominating petitions at the Library. Candidates must file completed forms and petitions with the Library’s Administrative Office between the hours of 9am and 5pm from Tuesday, November 12 through Friday, November 15 and on Monday, November 18. Candidate names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received.

Requirements
Pursuant to the Public Library District Act of 1991, 75 ILCS 16/30-20 (d) and (e), applicants must have resided within the Library District boundaries for at least one year, must not be in arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the Library District, and must not have been convicted in any court in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony. Applicants must also be a registered voter.

What is the Role of a Library Trustee?
Library Trustees are responsible for establishing and supporting policies that govern Library operations, exercising fiduciary responsibility through excellent fiscal management, participating in long-range planning to continue meeting the needs of the community, and being a strong advocate for the Library community at large.

Meeting Schedule
Regular meetings take place on the third Monday of each month at 6pm, with the exception of January which takes place on the fourth Monday of the month, and the Board does not meet in December. Special meetings may be called in accordance with the Board Bylaws. The full annual schedule of regular meetings is approved by the Board and published on the Library Board of Trustees webpage.
