Moraine Valley Casting 'The Birds,' Seeks Actors Of All Ages And Backgrounds

People of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition for 'The Birds' at MVCC, Monday, Dec. 1.

PALOS HILLS, IL — If you’re an actor who has always wanted to sink your teeth into a horror role, the Moraine Valley Community College Academic Theater Department will be holding open auditions for “The Birds” on Monday, Dec. 1. Auditions will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills.

Based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier and adapted for the stage by Conor McPherson, “The Birds” tells the tale of two strangers who take shelter in an isolated house from relentless masses of attacking birds. Another refugee arrives with news of the outside world, but her presence brings discord. Paranoia takes hold in the makeshift fortress, posing an internal threat to match that of the birds outside. The story also is the basis for Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film of the same name.

People of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Those auditioning should prepare a short monologue from a modern play. While not preferred, cold readings will be available, if needed. The show will run from Feb. 27 to March 8 with rehearsals adjusted based on cast schedules.
