Palos Hospital Opens Neurosurgery Clinic

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL – A neurosurgery clinic at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital is now seeing patients.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Drew A. Spencer, a graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and chief medical resident at McGraw Medical Center of Northwestern University is providing comprehensive neurosurgical care for a wide range of conditions, including brain tumors and spine disorders, according to a Northwestern Medicine news release.

Initially, Dr. Spencer will perform some surgical cases at Palos Hospital and more complex cases at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Over the next year, Northwestern Medicine will develop an inpatient program at Palos Hospital that includes a neuro intensive care unit. Northwestern Medicine says its ultimate goal is to perform most neurological procedures at Palos Hospital.

On Nov. 1, Northwestern Medicine will launch telestroke services at the hospital, which will allow stroke neurologists from the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to meet with stroke patients 24/7. It also allows physicians to conduct virtual exams and collaborate with emergency teams at Palos Hospital.
