
This past Saturday, August 30th, the Dolton Bears came to play at the Palos Stars field. After some overnight rain, the cool air and calm breeze made for a beautiful day of football.
The Mighty-Mites teams were up first. And the Palos Stars team truly came to play! Although these teams don't keep a score, the Stars did not allow a single touchdown by the Bears. #42 Coleman-Foster ran down the field for a Stars touchdown on the first play of the game. #65 Larkins made another touchdown for the Stars. #65 Larkins and #56 made a great tackle. #53 Mauldin broke away from the line for a great touchdown run but it was called back for holding.

#42 Coleman-Foster made a Stars touchdown. #65 Larkins made a great tackle. #53 Mauldin had a few great runs, getting the Stars closer to the goal line. This allowed #42 Coleman-Foster to make a Stars touchdown. #24 Carroll tackled a Bears player by the shoe as he almost got away. #28 Rodgers forced and recovered a fumble. At halftime, the Stars Mighty-Mites Cheerleaders came out to get the stands yelling P S F for the Palos Stars Football!

The cheerleaders also kept the sidelines full of cheer for thr team throughout the game. This included counting out for every jumping jack they did. One for each point scores by the Stars! That added up to a lot of jumping jacks for the girls by the end of the game. #28 Rodgers had a graet tackle in the backfield. #42 Coleman-Foster had a great touchdown saving tackle.

#42 Coleman-Foster and #28 Rodgers had a backfield tackle. #42 Coleman-Foster made a other great tackle. #65 Larkins grabbed a dropped ball and was able to run it down the field for a Stars touchdown. #38 Sotiropoulos picked up a fumble for the Stars. After thr Bears got possession back, #56 Zuleger forced a fumble and #38 Sotiropoulos recovered it again. #74 L. Farr had a great run. The team walked away from this game proud of the growth they made over the week and being able to show off what they had worked on. A week of practicing blocking and transitions really paid off for the Stars.

The Widgets had their turn next. #23 Eid had a great backfield tackle. #19 Inabi blocked an extra point attempt with a great tackle. #19 Inabi then made a great run for a 1st down. #78 Larkins had a great run.

#23 Eid made a good backfield tackle. The Stars made a Constellation group tackle on the Bears. #19 Inabi and #2 Compean made a tackle for a loss. #27 Bowater made a tackle at the line of scrimmage. #19 Inabi made a good punt. #52 Ennis tackled the Bears ball carrier, forcing a fumble and also recovered the ball for the Stars. #72 Ruggio and #19 Inabi made a good tackle. #72 Ruggio followed that up with a touchdown saving tackle at the buzzer for the half. #84 Smith had a good carry for a 1st down. #19 Inabi had a great carry and then had a fantastic punt. #72 Ruggio made a great tackle. A Constellation of Stars made a tackle at line of scrimmage.

#2 Compean made a good tackle. #52 Ennis slowed the runner and #27 Bowater finished the tackle in the backfield. #72 Ruggio tackled in backfield to stop the Bears from advancing. The Stars defense did a great job holding the Bears to only one touchdown. Final score Stars 0, Bears 6.
The Pee-wees came out next. #10 Dickerson and #33 Carrillo had a great tackle.

#53 Wasik and #58 Moore tackled at the line. #31 Bittner slowed the runner and teammates came in to finish it off. #31 Bittner knocked the runner out of bounds. #22 GTO and #50 made a tackle. #10 Dickerson tackled by the shoe as the Bears runner lost both shoes by the end of the play. #5 Akel, #22 GTO, and #58 Moore tackled to stop extra point. At halftime the Pee-wees cheerleaders came out and put on a great halftime show.

Flying high in their stunts, they crowd loved the performance. #7 Quinn had a great pass to #10 Dickerson. #22 GTO had a good carry up the middle for a 1st down.

#7 Quinn kept the ball and got the next 1st down. #10 Dickerson had a great catch from #7 Quinn. He then followed that up with a great tackle. #5 Akel, #30 Inabi, #31 Bittner had a good group tackle.

#5 Akel followed that up with a good solo tackle. #17 Clarke slowed runner while a teammate came in for the tackle. #22 GTO had a few good carries that added up to 1st down for the Stars. The game ended not in the Stars favor but they have a week of practicing to work out some skills.
The JV played after that. #17 A. Bittner and #44 Gonzalez made a great tackle to get the game started. #34 Alberts picked up fumbled ball. #2 Poe caught a great pass from #9 Ennis. #44 Gonzalez had a great tackle on a punt return.

#47 Jackson Jr tackled the Bears runner to stop the extra point attempt. #47 Jackson Jr then had a great run for a big 1st down. After a fumbled snap, #9 Ennis was quick thinking and grabbed the ball and sharply threw it to #14 Dreyer. #9 Ennis then got a Stars 1st down. #18 Werdeg had a great long catch for another 1st down. #2 Poe had a great catch. #14 Dreyer had a fabulous run to the 1 yard line. This allowed #18 Werdeg to run in for a Stars touchdown. #44 Gonzalez had another great tackle.

#47 Jackson Jr tackled in the backfield by a shoe of the Bears runner. #16 Tyma and #22 L. Bittner worked together for a good tackle. A Great catch by #2 Poe got some needed yards for the Stars. #47 Jackson Jr had an amazing long touchdown run on a kick return.

#18 Werdeg had a great catch and ran half the field for a Stars touchdown. #9 Ennis got extra point for the Stars. #18 Werdeg follwed that up with a great tackle in the backfield and #47 Jackson Jr had a great tackle. The game ended in the third quarter as the long quarters had the day running pretty far behind. The Stars have some more work to do this week and hope to be ready for homecoming on Saturday.
The Varsity teams were finally able to take the field, just a bit behind schedule.

#5 Workman successfully dove for a kick return. #2 Gordon led a Stars constellation tackle. #5 Workman had a great tackle. #24 Sitko had a good backfield tackle. #5 Workman had another good tackle. #2 Gordon had a good carry.

#17 Matula caught an interception from the Bears. #5 Workman had a great run, knocking through Bears players as he made his way down field. #24 Sitko stopped the runner. #5 Workman stripped the ball and had a great break away run.

The Varsity cheerleaders were keeping the stands lively with their loud and proud sideline cheers.

At halftime, they put on an outstanding show because this is OUR HOUSE. After the half, #12 Pettinga blocked a pass to the Bears. #87 Reid-Doss blocked the next pass attempt. #12 Pettinga had a great run. The Stars blocked the extra point attempt. Then a good inside run by #7 Portugues rounded out the day. This was a tough match up for the Stars and they will be back at it next Saturday for the Stars homecoming game against Burbank.
