CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University will offer automatic admission to Trinity Christian College students after the college announced last week that it will close permanently at the end of the current academic year, citing financial losses and mounting deficits.

Saint Xavier will match out-of-pocket net tuition and costs as part of its teach-out agreement with Trinity. All credit hours earned will be accepted, and SXU will identify a pathway for teach-out students to complete the equivalent degree at the university in the same time frame it would have taken to complete at Trinity.

As the first Catholic university in Chicago, SXU is the closest faith-based institution to Trinity Christian, with a strong Catholic, Mercy heritage and liberal arts foundation. SXU is committed to ensuring a seamless transition for Trinity students to continue their degrees uninterrupted and helping them find a home at Saint Xavier, where they will be provided with a transformative educational experience.

“Inspired by our Mercy mission and faith in God, Saint Xavier University is ready to provide support and service to those in need,” Brian Hotzfield said in a news release, vice president of enrollment for SXU. “We are honored to be a teach-out partner with our neighbor, Trinity Christian, and we're grateful for the trust placed in us to assist students in transitioning to a new educational home and completion of their degrees.”

SXU also welcomes students interested in majors or programs that are not eligible for the Teach-Out. Transfer credit will be evaluated upon admission.

Trinity students are encouraged and welcome to visit SXU to tour the campus, speak with an admission counselor, and learn about financial aid. Virtual visits are also available. Saint Xavier representatives will be on the Trinity Christian College campus on November 19 to meet with students.

Following the closure of an institution or campus, another institution provides an opportunity for the students of the closed school to complete their program, regardless of their academic progress at the time of closure. Teach-out programs offer greater benefits to students than typical transfer students.

According to Trinity’s website, the college has similar teach-out agreements with Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., and Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich.

SXU is the most affordable Catholic college in Illinois and is ranked as a “Best Value” college by U.S. News & World Report, recognized for its affordability by Colleges of Distinction, and named within the top five most affordable colleges in Chicago by Niche. The university's commitment to affordability and eliminating barriers to education ensures that a faith-based, high-impact learning experience remains accessible to all.

“Deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition of compassion and our core value of hospitality, the Saint Xavier University community warmly welcomes the students from Trinity Christian College,” said Keith Elder, Ph.D., SXU president. “During this time of transition, our shared faith presents an opportunity to grow together. We are honored to accompany these students on their continued educational journeys and proud to open the doors to their bright futures.”

SXU also welcomes students interested in majors or programs that are not eligible for the teach-out. Transfer credit will be evaluated upon admission.
