Community Development Removes Financial Barriers
The city is making changes to "encourage residents, developers, and businesses to invest in their properties and in the community."
Starting September 23, 2020, the Community Development Department changed the permitting fee schedule for residential, commercial, and demolition permits and eliminated the application fee and plan review fee for all building permits. These changes were made to encourage residents, developers, and businesses to invest in their properties and in the community.
Effective September 23, 2020, there will be no permit fees for residential jobs valued under $5,000. Residential jobs valued at $5,000 or more will have an associated permitting fee that considers the construction cost times .008. This fee schedule applies to all residential permit types and the cost of construction is rounded up to the nearest $1,000.

Commercial jobs valued over $5 million will have a permit fee that considers the construction cost times .002. This fee schedule applies to all commercial permit types and the cost of construction is rounded up to the nearest $1,000.
From now through June 30, 2021, all permit fees associated with work designed to mitigate COVID-19 will be waived. However, contractors must request this waiver when applying for the permit and they must provide proof that the work is associated with COVID-19 mitigation.

Building permits and demolition permits ensure that new structures and renovations comply with local and state code to keep families, customers, and our community safe. Any work started without a permit will now result in a triple-charge of the permit fee. Work started without a permit on a residential or commercial job with a no-cost permit will result in a ticket.
