3. Privately owned lot in Peoria Heights now charges for parking (centralillinoisproud.com) — Drivers who’ve long relied on a free lot off East Seiberling Street in Peoria Heights now have to pay, after new developers installed a toll gate and phone-based payment system as part of a $500,000 upgrade. Village leaders say the lot has always been private, revenues go to the owners, and they’re taking a wait-and-see approach while a recent study shows overall Heights parking remains adequate.
