1. Peoria airport sets new travel records, parking lots overflow (centralillinoisproud.com) — If you’re flying out of General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport, expect packed parking lots and plan to arrive early, as the airport is seeing record passenger numbers this year. Overflow parking and shuttle buses are in use through January 4, and drivers are warned not to create their own spots or risk tickets.
   

2. Volunteer highlighted for service to Central Illinois Salvation Army (25newsnow.com) — A longtime Salvation Army volunteer in Peoria is being recognized for leading the Tree of Lights campaign, which has already raised more than $1.2 million with help from about 750 volunteers. Stan Cohen’s work spans disaster services, launching Peoria Echelon, and recruiting family and friends to serve, and he’s urging more residents to get involved to better understand and support neighbors in need.
   

3. Peoria's Bishop Tylka urges faithful to follow God's plan for better world (25newsnow.com) — Peoria Bishop Louis Tylka is using his Christmas message to encourage local Catholics to lean into God’s love and help build a more peaceful, hopeful world. In a brief YouTube video, he urges the Peoria-area faithful to let Christ’s gifts take root in their homes and hearts this season.
   

4. Post-Christmas gift returns: What you need to know (centralillinoisproud.com) — If you’re heading to Northwoods Mall in Peoria to return gifts, local stores are generally honoring returns as long as tags are attached, and receipts help. The mall’s general manager says foot traffic is up 4% and encourages shoppers to buy in person next year to avoid disappointing online purchases and extra returns.
   

5. Prep sports recap for Dec. 26, 2025 (centralillinoisproud.com) — Peoria-area hoops fans got plenty to cheer about Friday, with Brimfield, Princeville, Elmwood and Midland advancing in the Princeville Holiday Tournament and several local teams, including Peoria High, winning at the State Farm Classic. Girls squads from Washington, Morton and others also notched big holiday-tournament victories, while Peoria High and Manual struggled at the Manual Girls Shootout.
