Here are the top three stories in Peoria today:
- March marks Women’s History Month, and the Peoria Police Department is focusing on recruiting women. As it stands, women make up only 13 percent of the PPD — out of 195 officers, 24 are women. In an effort to have a force representative of the community they serve, and as part of the 30 by 30 challenge, PPD seeks to have 30 percent of the staff be female officers sworn in by the year 2030. The center offers local chefs and restaurateurs the opportunity to showcase their culinary skills and even launch their own businesses. It aims to boost the local food scene and encourage economic development in the Peoria area. (Subscription: Peoria Journal Star)
