SkillsUSA Welcomes Students for Construction Pathways Event Nov. 8
SkillsUSA Illinois invites hundreds of central Illinois students to the Peoria area this Friday to get an up-close look at construction jobs

PEORIA -- Hundreds of central Illinois students will get an up-close lesson this Friday on what it takes to have a successful career in construction.
SkillsUSA Illinois' latest Pathways Career Experience is set for our area to help introduce students to what they need to know and do to become professionals in construction. Learn more about this exciting event in the preview offered by SkillsUSA:
Exposure to careers in the construction industry and the skills and path to secure them is the mission for hundreds of students traveling to Peoria from across central Illinois high schools for the latest SkillsUSA Illinois Pathways Career Experience event on Friday, Nov. 8.

For the third year, Pekin-based SkillsUSA Illinois will partner with the Youth Workforce Development Foundation and a number of local contractors and trades unions to bring students in touch with construction careers. The Construction Pathways: Career Experience 2024 event will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Caterpillar Edwards Demonstration and Learning Center (5801 N. Smith Road, Edwards, IL 61528).
Participating contractors will have a career fair where students participate in a mock job interview, helping them learn what it takes to get hired in the industry. Unions participating will showcase careers in the industry, showing students quickly how to learn a skill and demonstrate they can use it.

The all-day program is made possible by a state grant under the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship program. SkillsUSA Illinois’ mission is to help employers statewide address a growing skills gap with its nonprofit partnership of students, instructors, and industry to introduce and encourage young people about employment needs and the skilled workforce required to meet them. SkillsUSA Illinois recently welcomed more than 500 students from schools across Chicagoland for a Pathways event focused on careers working on diesel engines and heavy machinery.
