1 DUI, 17 Seat Belt Tickets In Plainfield Halloween Crackdown

Multiple car seat citations were also issued.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Between Oct. 26 and Nov. 1, Plainfield Police participated in the annual Halloween Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, bringing awareness to motorists and writing 17 citations for seat belt violations and 5 citations for violating the child passenger safety act.

Illinois’ seat belt use rate is 93.8 percent, but unbelted occupants disproportionately account for over half of those killed in traffic crashes. This Click It or Ticket campaign aims to change the behavior of the millions of people who still don’t buckle up. Thousands of lives could be saved each year if every vehicle occupant was properly restrained when traveling on the road.

During the seven-day overtime mobilization, Plainfield Police issued:

  • 11 speeding citations
  • 3 drug arrests
  • 14 illegal cell phone use citations
  • 4 illegal possession of alcohol by a minor citations
  • 10 other citations

This Halloween enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
