PLAINFIELD, IL — The Plainfield Police addressed village residents on Friday via Facebook, regarding the number of spring "parades" they had been asked to participate in. Police said they were willing to participate in these ad-hoc celebrations of graduations, birthdays, and the like, but asked residents to keep several conditions in mind.

As we approach a very new type of graduation season, we appreciate being asked to participate in a number of Birthday, Welcome Home, and Graduation vehicle “parades” that have been occurring all over the Village.

With or without COVID19, our mission involves partnering with the community to promote safety and enhance the quality of life. With that in mind, we ask the following of our residents:

  • Please continue to notify us! We ask you give the police department at least five (5) day's notice prior to the date of the celebration so we can schedule accordingly (Just be aware the police and fire department’s participation is always contingent on call volume).
  • Please limit parades to 25 vehicles or less. Anything more than this could cause traffic concerns or traffic safety issues.
  • If you anticipate a vehicle parade will have more than 25 vehicles please let us know and we will work with you on the concerns.
  • All vehicles in the parade should follow all traffic safety laws (traffic lights, traffic signs, speed limits, etc.).
  • The vehicles can slow as they pass the house or location but no vehicle should stop in the roadway.
  • Everyone is to remain in the vehicles at all times, with their seat belts on, and remember to practice social distancing if anyone is outside at the residence or location.

TOGETHER we can hopefully bring a little joy and happiness at a very important time in someone’s life
