Christmas Morning Fire Evacuates Plainfield Townhome
A dryer fire caused smoke to fill the homes during the early hours of Christmas Day.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Ten people were evacuated early Christmas morning after a dryer fire caused smoke to fill a three-unit townhouse. Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the call from the 24000 block of Main Street came just before 1:30 a.m.
Stratton said five children and two adults were evacuated from the basement unit, which is where the dryer fire started. Three adults were evacuated from the two remaining units.
The dryer was still on fire when firefighters arrived, according to Stratton. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and the damage was limited to the dryer and the dryer vents, he said.
