Commercial Building, Multiple Cars 'Total Loss' After Heavy Fire: Oswego FD

The structure on Light Road and numerous vehicles parked in the parking lot were destroyed in the blaze, officials said.

OSWEGO, IL — A commercial building and multiple cars on Light Road were a "total loss" after a blaze broke out early Wednesday morning, the Oswego Fire Protection District said.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:07 a.m. to the 5400 block of Light Road after a train crew traveling through the area notified KenCom Public Safety Dispatch of what appeared to be a building fire. When they arrived, crews were met with "heavy fire conditions" at a structure and multiple cars on the property, according to a news release.

Due to the extent and size of the fire, Oswego firefighters requested additional resources, and crews from the Aurora, Bristol Kendall, Montgomery and Plainfield fire departments came to help.

Firefighters worked for "an extended period" to bring the blaze under control and extinguish hot spots. The structure and numerous vehicles were considered a total loss, officials said.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Oswego Fire Protection District.

The Bolingbrook and Sugar Grove fire departments provided station coverage during the fire to ensure "continued emergency response capabilities for the community."
