Non-Special Needs D202 Students Will Return To School From Nov. 5
All students, except those in middle and high schools, will be back in classrooms for hybrid learning by Dec. 7.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield School District 202 students who do not have any special needs will return to school in groups starting Nov. 5., the district announced Friday.
Each student group will return to in-person learning building on the successful, safe return of the preceding group. Bringing students back in small groups will allow administrators to monitor and adjust safety protocols, staffing, etc.
Prekindergarten to 12th grade multi-needs special education students — or Tier 1 students — will be the first ones to return to school in October. The district said the schedule in tentative, depending on the current coronavirus numbers.

In the upcoming weeks, D202 will survey parents on their intent for their student to return to in-person learning or to continue with remote learning. The Intent to Return Survey will also contain key schedule, health, and safety information.
Families must select one option for the remainder of the first semester. The first semester ends on Jan. 15. Families who select remote learning must remain on it until the end of first semester. Families who select to return in-person, may select to move to remote learning at any time.
Students will automatically remain on remote learning for the remainder of the semester if families do not submit a form survey by the due date indicating their attendance preference. Students may be assigned to a different teacher for either in-person or remote learning based on the results of all attendance preference forms received.
More information and sample schedules can be found here.
D202 officials will continue to monitor:
- The positivity rate for our area and Will County
- Guidance from the Will and Kendall County Health Departments, Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois State Board of Education and Centers for Disease Control
- The availability of cleaning and disinfecting supplies
- The availability of personal protective equipment (PPE)
