Gas Meter Fire Damages Plainfield Home

A couple and their two dogs were home when the blaze broke out.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Plainfield couple and their two dogs escaped a gas meter fire that spread to their home in the 22900 block of Eider Drive early Thursday, fire officials said. Plainfield Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the couple heard a noise outside their home just before 8:30 a.m. and went outside to find their gas meter on fire.

The gas-fed fire started on the side of the home and spread to the interior, reaching the attic, according to Stratton.

Plainfield firefighters were able to get the blaze under control quickly, and Nicor was also called to the scene, Stratton said.
