No Threat To D202 Schools After Social Media Post Raised Concerns

Plainfield school staff referred to "recent social media posts" and asked parents to use an online portal to report concerns.

PLAINFIELD, IL —District 202 assured families that there is currently no threat to any of the district’s school buildings on Wednesday, despite "recent social media posts" that raised concerns.

District officials did not allude to the contents of any specific social media post, but said that any social media posts or incidents that come to the district’s attention through an online hotline are investigated by the Plainfield and Joliet police departments.

In the email to families on Wednesday, the district said that “recent social media posts” prompted officials to send the email about posting any safety concerns to the online hotline, which can be found here. The district did not give details on the content of the posts.

In response to a request for comment, a district spokeswoman directed Patch to the email sent to families by District 202 Superintendent Glenn Wood.

District officials said in the email to families on Wednesday that the online hotline is used by the district to help prevent suicides, bullying, school violence, or other threats to school safety. Officials said that the district has a “24/7 confidential way” to share information regarding safety issues.
