Plainfield High School Students Can Get Free Heart Screenings

Officials said specially-trained cardiologists will be onsite for the screenings and the results will be shared privately with parents.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield North and Plainfield South High Schools will offer free heart screenings for students in January and February 2019, officials said. The screenings, provided by Young Hearts for Life, can catch potential heart issues that routine physicals can sometimes miss. Screenings are also being planned for students of Plainfield Central and Plainfield East High Schools, but you'll have to wait until the next school year if you're enrolled there.

Officials said students must be tested at their home school, so don't register at a different school to jump the line.

The school district is also looking for volunteers to help out with the screenings. No medical knowledge is needed, so if you're interested, register for a training session here. The training session will occur the day before the screening.

Students are also encouraged to create a 2 to 3 minute video on sudden cardiac death. The student with the best video from each school will win $100 and be entered to win a $500 grand prize. Send your videos to younghearts4life@gmail.com. Find more information here.
