Plainfield Schools Rank As Commendable, Exemplary: IL Report Card

One school was labeled exemplary while the 27 other District 202 schools were labeled commendable.

PLAINFIELD, IL — All 28 District 202 schools have been labeled as either "exemplary" or "commendable" under the recently released state report card. That includes one school which has moved up a category after being labeled as "underperforming" last year.

The grades are part of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness state achievement exam, with data from the exams informing the Illinois Report Card. Twenty-seven schools in District 202 were graded as "commendable," with one schools — Eagle Point Elementary — being labeled "exemplary."

“Once again, District 202 did well overall,” Dr. Glenn Wood, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at District 202, said. “We are happy with our results this year and expect to continue improving thanks to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and families."

The schools that received commendable status are:

  • Central, Charles Reed, Creekside, Crystal Lawns, Eichelberger, Freedom, Grand Prairie, Lakewood Falls, Liberty, Lincoln, Meadow View, Ridge, River View, Thomas Jefferson, Walker’s Grove and Wesmere elementary schools;
  • Aux Sable, Drauden Point, Heritage Grove, Indian Trail, Ira Jones, John F. Kennedy and Timber Ridge middle schools; and
  • Plainfield High School – Central Campus, and Plainfield South, North and East high schools.

Drauden Point Middle School moved up from a grade of "underperfoming" last year to be labeled commendable. Last year's grade was due to academic performance on the Dynamic Learnings Maps Assessment among its special education students, according to the district. The district received extra funding this year to help that population.

The report card also crunches an average SAT score for the district, with all district high school juniors taking the standardized test. Forty percent of the district's students met the SAT's reading/writing expectations, compared to 37 percent last year.

In math, 43 percent of district students met the SAT learning expectations, up from 37 percent last year, according to the district. The statewide average this year is 37 percent.

This year, 58 percent of district students were deemed proficient on the Illinois Science Assessment, which is the same number as last year but is above the 49 percent statewide average.

District 202 operating expense per pupil is $10,649, compared to the state average of $13,764, according to the Illinois Report Card.
