Storm Partially Rips Roof Off Plainfield School Gym

A temporary roof is being placed on the building and a permanent replacement will be installed before school starts next month.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A portion of the gym/multipurpose room roof was ripped off during storms Tuesday night in Plainfield, according to District 202. School officials posted to Facebook on Wednesday saying crews were on site at the school, 1900 Caton Ridge Drive, Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to secure the building and install a temporary roof replacement.

"Roofing contractors are on site (Wednesday) installing a temporary roof and a permanent replacement will be done before school starts on August 14," the district said.

Storms hit the area Tuesday night, and more could be in store for Will County on Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service said scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday and Wednesday night, with the highest likelihood of storms (30 percent chance) between 2 and 10 p.m. For Thursday, NWS predicts a 50 percent chance of storms during the day and a 30 percent chance in the evening.
