Deadly Romeoville Shooting: Man Killed, Plainfield Teen Wanted

Romeoville police believe the victim was fatally shot in the 1700 block of Sierra Trail. A warrant has been issued for a Plainfield teen.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A Joliet man is dead and a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Plainfield man on weapons charges after a Saturday night shooting in Romeoville, police said. Reginald M. Harris, 28, was pronounced dead after he was initially taken to the Edward emergency room in Plainfield before being transferred to Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora, according to Romeoville police.

Just before 9 p.m. Saturday, Romeoville police said they learned Harris and another man arrived at the Edward facility on 127th Street in Plainfield. Harris was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.

Police said the shooting appears to have taken place in the 1700 block of Sierra Trail in Romeoville.

On Sunday, Romeoville police and the Will County Sheriff's SWAT unit executed a search warrant in the 20800 block of West Barrington Lane in Plainfield. During the search, police said evidence from the Sierra Trail shooting was recovered.

An arrest warrant for various weapons offenses has been issued for 19-year-old Dieontae R. Sparks in connection with the shooting. Sparks has a history of arrests in Will County, most recently in July 2018, when he was arrested by Romeoville police on initial charges of aggravated battery and robbery. Court records show he later pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to 94 days in jail and various fees.
