Police Memorial Lights Up Romeoville Village Hall
The as-yet-unfinished memorial will pay homage to deceased police officers and police dogs, Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey said.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The entrance to Village Hall is now lit by more than just street lights. A glowing dedication to the village's police department now adorns the main walkway. According to Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey, the luminescent glass display is only one part of a yet-unfinished shrine, of sorts. A memorial for deceased police and their canine companions.
"It's still not officially done," Turvey said. "It'll have the names of our canines and their handlers that have passed... and all [Romeoville] police officers that have passed."
Assistant Village Manager Dawn Caldwell said the memorial's construction was dependent on the weather. The glowy bits had been turned on in late January, she said, but much still remained to be done on the memorial grounds themselves. Once spring - or at least more consistently clear - weather arrived, construction efforts could begin again in earnest.

"It's still under construction... [construction can start again] anytime we get a break in the weather," Caldwell said.
The memorial is being built by Georgia Landscaping Inc., a landscaping firm based out of Joliet. Without committing to a specific date, Caldwell said that the memorial could be finished as soon as this coming March if weather conditions proved favorable.
