'Violent Threat' At Romeoville School Sparks Investigation

Police reportedly said a shooting Thursday night in Romeoville was unrelated.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — School was scheduled to be held as usual Thursday after reports of a "violent threat" towards Lukancic Middle School, according to a statement from Principal Tricia Rollerson. In a release shared late Thursday night by the Village of Romeoville, Rollerson said officials were made aware of a threat Thursday afternoon and immediately contacted Romeoville police.

A post making the rounds on social media late Thursday claimed a student "said he is going to shoot up the school tomorrow," including a warning, "watch out jjl."

"Upon conducting a thorough investigation, there is no threat against anyone’s safety," Rollerson said. "Romeoville Police Department and Lukancic administration would like to thank the students and parents who reported the threats to the school as their actions led to a speedy and thorough investigation."

The principal's message noted an unrelated shooting in Romeoville Thursday night — originally investigated by Crest Hill police— did not involve any Lukancic or Romeoville students and is under investigation by Romeoville police.

Romeoville police confirmed the incident was unrelated to the Weber Road shooting. Cmdr. John Ferdinardo said police determined there was no credible threat to Lukancic. He said the incident remains under investigation but could potentially involve more than one juvenile. No arrests have been made in the incident.
