SHOREWOOD, IL — Shorewood Police Chief Phil Arnold issued a press release revealing more details about two early morning shootings in the village. Later, on Tuesday night, Chief Arnold issued a short press advisory declaring, "Suspect taken into custody. More info to follow when available."

Earlier, the chief announced that the same gun was used to target two different homes, but the two victims do not know one another.

According to Arnold, at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, the Shorewood Police Department responded to Ca-Crest Drive and Highland Drive to the sound of gunshots in the area. Responding officers combed the immediate area, but were not able to find anyone or any evidence of damage. The police department received one telephone call regarding the incident, and the original caller could not provide any additional information.

Two hours later, at 6:50 a.m., Shorewood's police department received a call from the 500 block of Bethany Drive, regarding a house being damaged by gunshots. Shorewood police discovered that the residence was struck three times by gunshots from what appeared to be a small caliber firearm.

The residents inside the home were uninjured, the chief said.

As officers processed the scene and conducted a neighborhood canvass, the police department received a call from a different resident in the 500 block of Northgate Lane. That resident told police that before 5 a.m., one of the occupants of their house had heard a loud noise. Several hours later, after further examination of the home, the owners discovered damage caused by a single gunshot.

Officers responded recovered evidence from the home and the immediate area, the chief noted.

"Based on evidence obtained from both residences, and with the assistance of our local, state, and federal law enforcement officials, the firearm used appears to be consistent in both incidents, pending confirmation by lab analysis," Chief Arnold said. "It should be noted that the owners of the two residences are not known to each other and have no common affiliations."

Arnold said the Shorewood Police Department considers the investigation active and fluid.

"We are asking our residents to review video footage from their homes in the immediate area of both residences involved and contact the Shorewood Police Department Investigations Division at (815) 725-1460 with any leads or information," the chief urged everyone.
