Joliet Man Got Guest Drunk, Let Him Take Fatal Dive Into Pool: Lawsuit

The Joliet man "permitted and encouraged" his drunken guest to use the swimming pool, the lawsuit said.

A Joliet man got a guest drunk and then let him take a fatal dive into his backyard swimming pool, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Delores Arboleda, the widow of Shorewood resident Julio Arboleda, sued David Johnson, claiming he caused her husband’s wrongful death.

Julio Arboleda was 40 when he died in April 2014. In August 2013, he was visiting Johnson’s Galway Road home, the suit said. Julio Arboleda was intoxicated during this visit, and Johnson “caused or contributed to the intoxication by serving (him) alcohol up until the time of the accident.”

Johnson “had actual notice that (Julio Arboleda) was intoxicated,” the suit said, but still “permitted and encouraged (him) to use aforesaid swimming pool.”

Julio Arboleda was injured when he dove into the pool, the suit said.

Julio Arboleda died at Meadowbrook Manor in Bolingbrook, according to his obituary.
