Ringleader in Brutal Attack on Pregnant Teen With Cerebral Palsy Jailed: Cops

The man's mother and brother remain at large.

The ringleader in a brutal attack on a pregnant teen with cerebral palsy and epilepsy has been apprehended and jailed, police said.

Matthew Gonzalez, 21, was booked into custody Tuesday morning. He was being held at the Will County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Gonzalez assaulted the pregnant 19-year-old at his Preston Heights home July 13, police said.

“He punched me in the nose and I hit the room door, and then he started punching my stomach because I am pregnant by his cousin,” the teen said in a petition for a protective order.

“He also punched me on the mouth, busting my lip and tearing the inside of my mouth,” she said. “I blacked out for a few seconds. I slowly got up because I was feeling dizzy and called 911. Then his mother and brother blocked me from getting out of the house.”

The mother and brother — Maria Ortiz, 48, and Jose Gonzalez, 28 — joined in the assault, police said. The teen also said the three threatened to kill her or have her killed.

Ortiz and her sons were all charged with aggravated battery. Jose Gonzalez and his mom remain at large.

The teen described Ortiz and her sons as “self-employed” drug dealers whose work hours “vary.”

The Gonzalezes are both on parole, Matthew for the manufacture or delivery of cocaine and Jose for attempted aggravated battery with a firearm. Their mother pleaded guilty to the manufacture or delivery of cocaine in February 2011. She was sentenced to probation.
