Teen Run Over by Car, Pal Shot in Back During Tuesday Afternoon Attack

The two teens were walking down Theodore Street when they were attacked.

One teenage boy was run over by a car and a second was shot in the back during a broad daylight attack on Theodore Street.

The two 16-year-olds were walking on Theodore near the Interstate 55 frontage road about 3 p.m. Tuesday when a car pulled up and a passenger armed with a handgun emerged from the vehicle.

“The male driver of the vehicle then drove over the curb and onto the sidewalk, striking one of the victims (and) causing him to fly into the air before landing on a resident’s lawn,” police said.

The gunman went after the other teen, police said. but both that youth and the one who had been run over managed to make a break for it. As they were fleeing, the gunman shot one of the teens in the back.

Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the two youths at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. The one who had been shot in the back got a ride to the hospital from a relative. The other was taken to St. Joe’s by paramedics.

“One of the victims believe this may be related to a previous criminal damage to property incident,” police said.
