Açai Bowl Spot Moving Into Downtown Skokie

Hummingbird Hideaway, a new açai bowl eatery, is asking the village for financial assistance in order to renovate its downtown space.

SKOKIE, IL — A new, refreshing eatery is on its way to opening in Downtown Skokie.

Hummingbird Hideaway, an açai bowl eatery, has requested financial assistance in the amount of $45,600 under Skokie's Downtown TIF Rehab Program to convert its space at 5118 Oakton St. into a new restaurant. The 1800-square-foot space on the floor level of the Highpoint apartment building requires significant investment to open, according to the village, because it has remained unfinished since 2022.

"Hummingbird Hideaway, an Açai Bowl concept, plans to create a space where positive energy flows freely through the food they serve, the connections they make, and the mindful choices they inspire. The use will build on the energy and compatible activities happening in the Downtown Skokie corridor," Skokie officials said.

The restaurant will be completing a full build-out of the space, including concrete flooring, drywall and framing, kitchen drop-down ceiling, paint, full electrical, plumbing and safety features. The construction cost for the interior is projected to be $356,000.

The Skokie Village Board of Trustees will vote Monday night on whether or not to approve the restaurant's request for funds.
