SKOKIE, IL — Ahead of National Ice Cream Day, Skokie Patch asked readers for their recommendations for the best ice cream place in town.

The results have been calculated, and one local creamery emerged as the clear favorite.

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Skokie, 4041 W. Dempster St., was the top pick among dozens of responses to last week's unscientific survey.

Nearly 38 percent of respondents recommended the family-owned business, which received an honorable mention for the village's 2019 Skokie Business of the Year Award.

Readers raved about the friendly staff, selection of interesting flavors and rich taste.

What makes it the best?

"Highest quality ice cream and great selection of interesting flavors," one reader said.

"Very friendly owners, wide variety of flavors," said another.

"Best ice cream EVER; wonderful flavors; great service," according to another reader.

The most popular flavor among respondents was Chocolate Shoppe's trademarked "Zanzibar Chocolae." — "THE BEST chocolate ice cream you will eat in your life," one said.

The Skokie location is owned independently from the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Company, which was founded in 1962 and now supplies more than 400 retail locations, according to the Madison, Wisconsin-based ice cream maker.
