BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The village of Buffalo Grove has joined a growing list of municipalities requiring the use of face coverings in public areas in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. An executive order issued by Buffalo Grove Village President Beverly Sussman requires the use of face coverings for anyone five years of age and older performing essential activities, such as shopping, visiting health care professionals or using public transportation. Employees of essential business also must wear face coverings.

Businesses must refuse admission or services to anyone not wearing a face cover. The village will be delivering signs with the message, "Entrance Prohibited Without Face Covering" to all essential and operating businesses. Penalties for disobeying this order can include a citation and $750 fine.

"This executive order is part of the village's ongoing efforts to protect our essential workers from COVID-19 exposures, in addition to protecting the health and safety of our entire community," Buffalo Grove Village Manager Dane Bragg said in a statement. "We wish we did not have to order these measures but preventing the spread of COVID-19 reamins a high priority in Buffalo Grove."
The order will remain in effect through Gov. J.B. Pritzker's stay-at-home order.
