Speed Limits Decreasing Village-Wide In Skokie
Speed limits in Skokie are set to be reduced soon in residential districts, according to city officials.
SKOKIE, IL — Speed limits are going down village-wide in Skokie on residential roads thanks to an ordinance set to be approved at Monday's Village Board meeting.
In response to concerns brought to the village, officials conducted a review of speed limits in residential districts to assess if speeds should be reduced from 30 mph. Officials considered data about 85th percentile speeds, road type, road jurisdiction and existing speed limit information.
The study focused on streets in residential neighborhoods, local streets with low volumes of traffic and collector streets with two-way traffic. The data gathered showed that about 96 percent of the studies areas should be reduced to 25 mph.
