As Winter Storm Settles In, Skokie Parking Plan Takes Effect

With more than 2 inches of snow on the ground, the village's alternate-side parking plan is in effect on Friday and Saturday between 8-6.

SKOKIE, IL — As Skokie-area residents begin to dig out from the winter storm that slammed into the Chicago region on Friday, local car owners should be aware of where they need to be parking not only Friday but Saturday.

The Village of Skokie announced that its alternate side parking plan will be in effect on Friday until 6 p.m. and then again between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, all vehicles must be moved to the side of the street with even-numbered addresses until 6 p.m. before the parking shifts with odd-numbered parking addresses on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

Certain streets are exempt from the alternate parking plan on weekends and holidays. A list of those streets may be found by clicking here.

Skokie's Alternate-Side Parking Program is in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, after a snow accumulation of at least two inches. The snow removal program is a minimum two-day operation. The plan will not be enforced on Monday due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Weather forecasters are predicting anywhere between 5 and 9 inches of snow as a Winter Weather Warning remains in place for the region until Saturday. Forecasters said that conditions may be made worse by winds that are expected to reach 40-50 mph. before the storm moves out and is replaced by frigid temperatures.
