14-Year-Old Girl And Security Guard, 46, Shot Outside High School

Officials said the student was shot 3 times in the abdomen and the guard, listed in serious condition, was shot in the arm Tuesday afternoon

CHICAGO — A student and a security guard were shot outside of a high school in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, according to Chicago fire officials.

Both the 14-year-old student and 46-year-old guard were taken to local hospitals after being shot at around 3:20 p.m. outside of Wendell Phillips Academy High School. The school is located at 244 East Pershing Road, according to a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

The student, a 14-year-old girl, was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she is listed in good condition. A Chicago police spokeswoman said the child was shot three times in the abdomen.

The guard was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his arm, Chicago fire spokesman Larry Langford told Patch. He is listed in serious condition.
