$23.75M Lottery Ticket Sold At South Side Gas Station

The ticket was the second-largest jackpot in more than seven years and earned the owner of a Roseland BP Station a bonus of $237,000.

CHICAGO — A local Illinois Lottery player is still reveling in the idea of being a multi-millionaire after claiming the second-largest jackpot in more than seven years, and the winning ticket landed the winner nearly $24 million, lottery officials announced.

The winning ticket was sold at a BP station that is located at 400 E. 95th St. in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood. The $23.75 million prize is the largest to be won this year and the second-largest since 2016.

The winner has a year to claim their winnings. However, the co-owner of the station where the ticket was sold is also benefitting from the celebration.

“I can’t believe it, the winning jackpot ticket was actually sold here,” Tanveer Haroon, co-owner of the BP gas station, said in a news release issued by the Illinois lottery last week. “We’ve owned this family business for more than 10 years and this is by far the biggest winning jackpot ticket we’ve ever sold at our store — I’m so happy.”

Asked if he knew who might have bought the winning ticket, Haroon said, “I don’t know, but I have a good feeling that it’s one of our regular customers.

“We have many that frequently buy Lotto tickets, I bet it’s one of them,” he said. “But no matter what, I’m just so excited for the lottery millionaire.”

For selling the winning ticket, Haroon will receive a bonus of $237,500, 1 percent of the prize amount. Haroon said he’s not sure what he’ll do with the winning bonus, but he does plan to do a little celebrating with his family, the news release said.
