5 Firefighters Hospitalized After Chicago Fire Engine Hits House: CPD

Police said the driver of the engine lost control of the truck which crashed into the side of a house in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

CHICAGO — Several Chicago firefighters remain hospitalized after a fire truck crashed into a house in the city’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Monday night, police said.

The crash took place just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 77th Street and Damen Avenue, according to police.

Police said that the fire engine was traveling south on Damen when the driver of the engine lost control of the truck and crashed into a house. Two people were home at the time of the crash. They escaped injury but are now displaced according to police.

Five firefighters remain in good condition at University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were taken after the crash. Police have not determined what caused the driver of the fire engine to lose control of the truck.
