Influx of Bald Eagles Soar to Chicago's South Side

Several birders have spotted the national bird in and around Chicago's South Side.

Lake Michigan's plentiful fish may be among reasons for a recent influx of Bald Eagles on Chicago's South Side, where bird enthusiasts have captured them on video.

More than 3,100 eagles flock to Illinois during the wintertime, according to a CBS News report that ranks the number of visits at "more than any other state outside Alaska." The story features bird enthusiast Dave Gruver. He says nearby fish and increased open space on the South Side have beckoned the national bird.
