Man Leads Police On Chase From Hammond, Indiana To Chicago's South Side With Child In Car, Officials Say

It was just after 5 p.m. Tuesday when Highland, Indiana police tried to pull over a black BMW in Hammond.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was facing charges Tuesday afternoon after he fled from Hammond, Indiana to the South Side of Chicago with a 4-year-old in the car, officials said.

It was just after 5 p.m. Tuesday when Highland, Indiana police tried to pull over a black BMW in Hammond, according to the Lake County, Indiana Sheriff's office. The officers were participating in a joint law enforcement operation involving many police agencies at the time.

The driver sped off, and Highland police began a pursuit—with the Lake County, Indiana Sheriff's Department and its aviation unit helicopter assisting.
