St. Rita Faculty and Staff Fund First-Ever Family Scholarship
Faculty and staff give back to the students

When Father James Green led the charge in 1905 to build an all-boys, Catholic high school at 63rd and Claremont on Chicago's southwest side, he and his fellow Augustinians wanted a place where families could send their sons to receive a great secondary education but also a place where the boys could call home. That feeling still exists today at St. Rita of Cascia High School, and that is never more evident than with the creation of the St. Rita Family Scholarship, which will be fully funded by members of the faculty and staff of St. Rita of Cascia High School as a way to give back to the school and especially to the families that sacrifice so much to provide their sons with a great educational experience.
The scholarship opportunity will be announced to the student body in September of each academic year. Faculty and staff members will be welcome to encourage students and their families to apply. Each applicant will be required to submit an essay on one of St. Rita's Core Values (Veritas, Unitas, and Caritas) and its meaning in his life. These essays will be reviewed by the scholarship committee, which will consist of three faculty and four staff members. All students' academic and discipline records will be reviewed before any final decisions are made. The final winners will be determined by the President and CFO after the committee has submitted their final two choices for each class. Each student's file will also include a review of financial needs before the final winners are announced.
Scholarships will be awarded in December just prior to Christmas break each year. The goal is to reward a $1250 scholarship to a student in each class (freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior). The awarded amount will be split over the student's monthly tuition payments for the remainder of that academic year.

The goal of $5000 was set for the first year of the scholarship which has already been surpassed, thanks to the generosity shown by so many members of the St. Rita High School Community. The St. Rita Family Scholarship Committee will also be working with the Social Committee and Campus Ministry on future endeavors to benefit the students of St. Rita.
